softer series (2022)
These series of performances sprouted from a one month residency with Lios Labs, situated in the Bledowska Desert, Poland.
slightly softer: making of (2022)
The first performance of this series was the one of making the installation. From a fresh birch branch and a mesh fabric I found buried in the sand, I crafted a colander. For 3 days I sifted andshifted the sand through this colander, removing all the impurities and larger sand granules. What didn’t pass throughthe mesh fabric I set aside on the periphery of my working ground, forming a circle with an approximate diameter of 4 meters. In the near area I found some a termite-eaten log and a weathered cement block with rusted metal, (forest and mining leftovers from the past century) and placed them next to the circle of sifted-sand. That gesture marked the end of the first performance.

Slightly Softer: an experience for the birds, bugs, wind and Ernest (2022)
For the second performance I invited my friend Earnest Borowski to interact and experience the feeling of the sand I had sifted and formed a sort of stage from. Ernest accepted my invitation and performed an improvised dancewith(in) the landscape, sand and found items. Image above is a still form a video documentation of his improvised dance.
Both and a small fraction of the making of the installationand screened both in an exhibition called Festival of future deserts in Magdeburg in Germany. The Videoprojections were installed in a former water-filtering cellar that was filled with dirt and sand. At the opening of theexhibition I performed the third performance amidst the videoprojections. Even Softer.
Even Softer (2022)
Performance at Festival of future Deserts, Magdeburg,Germany. For the third performance I re-enacted my movements from thedesert of sifting and filtering the sand, but this time I sifted thesand into the palms of every member of the audience. They were left with a palm full of sand and then just before the end I asked them to place the sand back in the colander, and sifted the sand once more before returning it back to the ground where it had been borrowed from.photo documentation: Beatrice Zerbato
